120mpg way back in the day. Swoopy but not all that aero. But the small frontal area is tough to beat.

They're supposed to be for crosswind stability, killing any chance for a yawing moment by forcing separation at the 'fang.'
They'd also kill crosswind bi-stable flow-induced flutter.

In this infographic they appear in the lower right as 'vortex traps'.

JACG:There were some mighty big Goodyears on Admiral Byrd’s Antarctic Snow Cruiser in 1939
It was an aircraft carrier. A little touch-up on the wheelwells and a boat tail is all it needs. It couldn't make 13mph.

I don't think height off the pavement is the biggest thing working against this rear diffuser, maybe a possible messy underbelly that I have not seen is.

Your take?
If you read some of the comments you get an idea of the debate over it.
Where it says PORSCHE on the side sure looks like a side skit to me.
The rocker panel does sitck out more in the one first posted, makes the door look like it's set back, not flush.

A lot less drag and weight on the stock car, I'll say that much.

Agree. The fences fall short. You can see clear through the off-side wheel. And the diffuser only fills the middle two quarters of the rear.
Chris Runge is at it again:
