I did not even know there was a 6MT accord. What was the top gear ratio? And the FD? Nice looking car, too.

The final drive is 3.276, top gear is .771, with a tire height of 25.5". That equates to 2330 RPM at 70 mph, or 1498 RPM at 45 mph.

Yep, the V6 6MT accord has been around since 2003, and still exists in coupe form. The sedan V6 6MT was only made in 2006-2007. I estimate that there were only around 10,000 made.

Exhaust channel deflector and new record tank 38.9 MPG

I made this partial exhaust channel deflector a few months ago, but wasn't motivated to post about it yet. That deflector is 1.5" tall if I remember correctly, was originally planning on .5", but that just looked way too tiny.

I had been planning undertray flow management for a while, but just recently I actually DID something about it. In a page far past, (page 8 to be exact) I posted this picture on my plans for flow management. It helps to have some point of reference, as my real picture is not the best.

Pro tip: Don't try to bend one piece of coroplast into an aerodynamic shape, like a bowed out V or U. It doesn't work. Instead, merge two pieces together so you can get the point across better. I mean really, you would think I would know this crap by now. I guess not.

Just recently I have started my long highway commute again, but much more frequently this time, so lots of driving! I am pretty sure the deflector has made a difference, as I am pretty much always able to coast to a certain point in the highway while keeping the speed at or above 55. Before it was a crap shoot. That has certainly helped mileage, but I didn't have any record trips this tank. In fact, I left the grille block on too much and the fan ran a lot, hurting mileage a bit. On other tanks I have managed to have almost exclusively my highway commute on them, this tank was not like that. I had both my highway commute and work commute in this tank, and I still reached a new record tank of 38.9 MPG!

Pre-heating the engine helped reduce the impact of my much shorter commute on the tank mileage, while the deflector improved coasting just a bit so I could coast over hills where I wasn't always able to. My departure times are flexible(when I can tolerate it. I just want to go home!) and I can definitely optimize my departure times to avoid ridiculous traffic.

So, that being said, my next mileage update will hopefully be the shattering of another one of my goals: The 40 MPG tank.

Happy modding!

It was a dark and stormy night...And I got a 40+ mpg tank!

It was pouring rain and thundering, just after I posted on 14'ecocruze's thread about how I couldn't break 40 mpg in the rain, I did just that, TWICE. My trip mpg came out to be 41.1 with a PESSIMISTIC scangauge. Tank mpg.......

*cue drumroll*

40.7 MPG!

Yeah baby! I broke my 40 mpg tank goal! When I first made that goal, boy did it seem far away, but I'm here! All without engine off coasting! My highway commute is very conducive to EOC benefits, so I can imagine EOC'ing will bump me above that 50 mpg trip goal as well.

The fillup details:
508.2 miles, all without the fuel light turning on!
12.502 gallons
40.65 mpg!

The pathetic thing about this is that I can now say I have gotten better gas mileage in my car than in my 250cc motorcycle...

Well, as long as you don't want a white one then you should be fine. This was the only white 6-6 sedan in the COUNTRY when I checked on autotrader.

10K Oil analysis

So I changed the oil a while back, putting 10,065 miles on it over 19 months. This oil change included a good bit of not so long trips and very little engine block heater use(since it wasn't installed until the last 2000 miles of it). I'm thinking of shooting for 13K miles this time around.

I was using 0W-20 Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic oil and a fram ultra synthetic filter.

Here is the analysis results from blackstone.

Is that a good oil analysis report?

It could have been better, I didn't like seeing iron that high, and I added a quart of oil throughout the oil change due to leaks. Leaks are now fixed, probably wont have to add any oil this time. My accord is now seeing a lot more highway driving, i'm trying to avoid using it for shorter trips so i'll take the bike or an already warmed car. Hopefully all this adds together to mean longer oil life and less engine wear so I can extend the oil changes. I was however pleasantly surprised by the lack of lead, so there is little bearing wear.(maybe)

Tank average is sitting at 41.7 mpg right now, and that could still be pessimistic!

I should have this done. "Blackstone" has been recommended to me. Any tips for ordering the service? (I guess I should not add oil so I can get the most accurate possible reading.)
