I love these Killawatt things... I did some experimenting with random household items.

Coffee maker (12cup Mr Coffee) uses 1000 watts when on a heat cycle...thankfully its on for an average of about 5 seconds every minute... that first 5 minutes of warmup though was greater than 80% leaving the coffee maker on for 3 hours.

Tivo Series 2
"On" and recording 35 watts... "Standby" and recording 35 watts... On and not recording (not even live TV) 35 watts.... "Standby" and not recording (no Live TV) 34 watts. Considering its a voyage through the menu system to find "standby" (Tivo's don't have power buttons).... I chose to bite the bullet over 1watt and leave the stupid thing on 24-7

I have the R10 (DirecTivo) and it records two channels continuously--even when in standby. Power consumption is 26 watts regardless of what I do.

If the drive ever dies on mine, I'll probably replace it with a laptop drive to shave off a few watts.
