What kind of refresh rate does the UltraGauge OBDII have, group? It looks fairly fast on the web page, but...

I'd say 1 time a second. It's due to the K-Line our cars use. The ultragauge will be faster with different protocols.

A mechanic friend of mine on Facebook commented on what might be affecting the Teal car:

"PCV valve... vacuum hose disconnected... Cam timing 1 tooth off (IF the T-belt has been done)... weak/failing O2 sensor... weak/failing fuel injector(s)..."

Some of that sounds too expensive.

Well if you want to get all technical about it.

Dragging brakes, low tire pressure, hole in fuel tank, leaky fuel lines, valve adjustment, etc etc....can go on for days speculating.

Do your basic tune up, log at least two tanks. Go from there.

You need to start more formal testing of stuff. Do you have a service manual? The 1998 Civic's service manuals are freely available online if you search effectively. I have the 1400+ page 1996-1998 and 1996-2000 manuals in PDF form... got them free online. They have great trouble shooting charts.

My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

Maybe a compression test would be a good place to start as well.
