It looks like he's going for a cross country record again, this time with a passenger. The record is three days by a team with a support vehicle.

I'm really impressed with what he's doing with electric motorcycles. It hint's at the potential of electric vehicles if he can roam cross country that fast.

I thought this was worth noting. Terry is making a more permanent tail at the Vetter ranch, with some upgrades. Notably 24kw of chargers for his 18-21kwh battery pack. Could this be the future? Batteries and electronic components will only get smaller and lighter. It's like looking at an 1980's milk carton sized cell phone. The potential is there!

Quote:
Functionality testing before the skin material goes on. And before I get asked...Yes there are 24,000 watts of chargers that will be under the nose section. Street lights in small towns will dim slightly when I pass through and plug in.
Quote:
When he charges, Terry consumes four automobiles worth of power! Four J1772 nozzles at once! Even tho, it still takes 45 minutes to fully charge. But then he can go 125-150 miles at 70-75 mph.

No electric motorcycle in the world can do this. Terry Hershner is a true pioneer.

Chargers are heavy. But if you want to charge fast, you have to have lots of them. Each charger weighs about 20 pounds which means that Terry is carrying 180 pounds of chargers!

The best place to keep the weight is up front, which is why Terry had to spread the fairing out.

Terry has 5 batteries* totaling 18kW hours of power. Three (integrated) batteries are already mounted inside the frame up front. We need to mount the other two at the rear. Because the nose is wider, the tail can be wider to match. Now, we can mount the batteries lower and wider.

*He has one more 3kW hour battery he can add for record rides.

This is from Terry's Facebook page. It's about time an Electric motorcycle went the distance, and apparently he won too!

Quote:
So I have good news.....Official results will be posted on Craig Vetter, designer and inventor of the Windjammer fairing,Triumph Hurricane Motorcycle Streamliners and fuel economy motorcycles tonight or tomorrow morning, but I found out unofficially that I won the Bonneville Vetter Challenge! Official distance was 171.7 miles at speeds up to 80 mph. (80 mph is the legal speed limit in Utah).

I'll post as soon as Craig updates the official results page. He's taking his time with details as he's preparing for the hundreds of people that will email him saying that it's impossible for an electric motorcycle to go so far so fast. Many told him an electric motorcycle would never win one of his challenges. So he's being very detailed.

116.5 Whr/ mile equals 298 MPGe. Very impressive considering they were running 80 mph at times.

The chargers weigh a hundred and eighty pounds. How much do the batteries weigh?

Excellent work!

420 pounds of batteries. $15,000 for a new Zero S motorcycle with 11.4 kWh. $7,500 for 3 more battery packs. $3,600 for 6 chargers. $2000 for the Vetter bodywork. $2000? for cables to hook it all up.

Electric Iron Butt 1,000. Worlds first!

First ever electric Iron Butt 1,000. Terry Hershner's Vetter streamlined electric Zero motorcycle drinking 4 level 2 chargers dry during his successful bid to complete an Iron Butt 1,000 miles in 24 hours.
