I've seen mixed reviews as well, but it's my understanding that the 3-stage uses the knock sensor to creep up on the detonation threshhold instead of using the wideband o2 sensor. The guy who bought my business, 360 performance, had a 3-stage but sold it about 2 weeks ago. The CRX is a better shape and the VX engine or 3-stage would perform better in that. You're probably out of school now, but keep in touch and I'll see what happens. Word is they have a small wind tunnel there for models, which would be awesome...if true?

hi, i was reading your post about the custom mid engine civic. Sounds like an awesome project. Anyway, I am a current student @ the VRI and live in Bellingham. I have been looking into the 3 stage jdm d15 engine and was wanting to swap one into a crx. I have a cx hatch that I swapped a d15z1 and have gotten 45 and 48mpg so far. But, I can't figure out if the 3 stage actually has lean burn or not. Some resources say it has a one wire o2, which would make it not lean burn. some resources say it gets up to 50mpg, which would make it lean burn. a guy on another forum, or maybe this forum, has a vx with 3 stage and only claims 35mpg. I don't know if these discrepancies are due to not correctly running the engine, ie wrong ecu or whatnot. Being that you were in the engine importing business I was wondering if you could clear up any of this. There's a 3 stage for sale on craigslist right now, is that you? Anyway maybe you can help me out with my 3 stage dilemma and maybe i can help you out with your car.
