10 unusual engine designs in one video

There is something in that for anyone, from a tiny paper V8 to jets & rockets via a sprinkling of piston patterns

YouTube has been recommending that one to me, too. Neat stuff, although the ordering of the video threw me: "the EM drive is #2 and is challenging our understanding of physics... what could possibly top that??"

Among those engines, the OPOC and the Freevalve were the ones that could be regarded somewhat promising. But anyway, while the Freevalve would still lead to some skepticism in regard to how its compressed air supply would increase the load compared to a regular valvetrain, the OPOC design still seems to meet the requirements of Class 4 and Class 5 trucks in developing markets such as most of Southeast Asia, Latin America and China.

OTOH that ball-shaped genset would be an interesting option for stationary applications.

I'm disappointed the Scuderi Split-cycle didn't make the cut.

OTOH if Koenigsegg made an aftermarket head for the VW and/or Subaru boxers, they could sell two to each customer.

The Kugelmotor is hella steampunk. It needs dashcams in goggle lenses on the air cleaner caps. On the front of an electric Morgan three-wheeler.
