I don't know the details of that dealership, but they might not be allowed to work on your scoot. I know with the Harley Davidson dealer agreements, if they are not a Buell dealer, they legally cannot touch my bike or get me parts. I can walk in and lie and say I need a spark plug for a Sportster and get the exact same part my Buells use no problem though.
Autozone would be cheaper for parts anyway. As for service, since its a Honda engine your local independent powersports shop (works on quads, snowmobiles, motorcycles) should be able to do any service you need.

I'm not sure why Honda won't touch Lifan bikes. I do know that you can find the cross references for just about any part all over the interwebs, though. If you're not sure about it, search on eBay for it. They'll have the interchange listed right in the title most times.
You're not obligated to tell the dealer what you're working on, you just need to know the part number you need, or have the part handy to match it up with. If they ask why it looks like a chinese part, tell them it's just one that you got aftermarket, and you want OEM parts to replace it.
I may not have to get the Lifan key switch, I think I just got one in a bolt-box of CM185T parts. I see the switch in the pics, I'm not sure if I can see a key or not, but it does have the other part I need, the dash cover. For $25, I'm sure I can use some of the stuff in it for something else, if it comes down to it.

Now here's a question that's been on my mind since I started riding my Ninja again, has anyone riding this bike been able to flick it into neutral from 5/6? I get substantial drag from clutch-in coasting, enough that I don't really coast as far as I'd like to.
Also, this battery that came with the bike is the most awesome thing, EVER. It went a full winter the first year I had the Ninja, sat for a year without being on a charger, pulled a year tour in my Burgman, which has a higher starting amp draw, then sat for another year, before being charged up and put back into service. It runs my heated gear just fine for a minute at a time while I'm stopped at a light, engine off.

Do you have a heated seat pad? That's something I was thinking about looking into for the Honda, even if I have to get a slightly bigger battery. I'll extend the riding season a bit that way.

I had mentioned something about that previously in the thread i believe. I, too, get noticeable drag while clutch in coasting. I am pretty used to it now, though. The only time i have hit the "neutral" between 5/6 is by accident, and it has only happened two or three times. In the "clutch in coasting" thread, there was mention about modifying the gearbox to allow for real neutral in between gears.

Christ, look into heated grips and a heated jacket liner, thats what I use, and I am a year rounder. I got my stuff from a Harley dealer, its made by Gerbings.
I don't know anything about the charging systems on the Honda scoots, so I don't know if they have ample power output or not.

It's a 6V system, and I don't think anyone makes accessories for 6V, and I don't want to run a convertor. I'm already going to have to screw around and make LED lamps rather than buy them, b/c I haven't been able to find any in 6V yet.
That's part of the reason I was considering a heated seat pad. I think I can do the grips, too... I might just need to get a jacket liner and install a small batt pack with some rechargeables?!

6 volts!!
I know Gerbings makes a line of heated gear that runs off a rechargeable battery, that might be your best bet.

Gonna be awhile before I start motorcycling with gear like that on... cost prohibitive, definitely.
I actually have to go buy a new helmet, and I'm even dreading that. Riding gloves, since my Mechanix gloves are worn out... but those are cheap. I'll have to see how well I can "feel" the controls w/ my thicker gloves on, b/c they keep my hands toasty warm while I'm working in the winter, and I can still feel tools pretty well. Other than that, bundle up comfortably, and I'm not going to be making long trips anywhere anyway.
