1982 EPA document proves benefit of Kamei spoiler/air dam

While poking around I came across this EPA archive document that may be of interest to this audience. I thought it was a nice little relic.

Not surprising to see cars that rested high above the ground (Renault Le Car, Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon) saw the greatest FE improvement when outfitted with a front air dam.

Le Cars saw the greatest improvement from being placed into scrap recycling yards.

I've seen that one before. The really funny thing is to look through the list of "fuel saving technolgies" that were submitted to EPA testing protocol.

Very, very few showed any results. And the air dam was one of them.

I remember seeing these on Rabbits (bottom left, below).

as inlines tumble in thier own crap, I like to see the air dam. I used one on a chevy corsica, and a subaru in the same time frame. subes do not like much, like alot of non-transverse cars. The front wheel drive does however like a deeper one, close to ground.

And it does get goofy beyond highway speeds..

I'll just call it all hopeless like I did in 1987.

watching the fancy shapes emerge the past few years...it makes it all even dumber to witness...watchout out for the curbs..
