1986 VW Golf is now in my possession.

And it's a diesel/5 speed.

Needs a little TLC and some restoration/rust repair, but I'm gonna fix it up and mod it a little, including shaved door handles (those things are horrible looking) as well as other tasteful mods.

Remember, it's a classic!

I see the lightening process is underway, without your help!

Do this to it:

The rust isn't too awful bad.. the doors in the first pic are just covered in dirt and mud, so it's not close to as bad as it looks LOL.

I really just want to restore it and give it some modern touches, like pop-open doors, maybe a modern stereo system, a few updates to the interior and some detailing, etc.

As you can see, I have quite the work load of projects to keep me busy, and I just keep piling them on. If I don't have 12 things to work on, I get bored.

Those original handles are prone to breaking... often.

My friend's Diesel Golf, we had to fix 3 of 4 handles from when his dad owned it, to when he safetied it. And then two more broke again after that. The handles are made out of pot metal, and that inner mechanism on the inner handle/lever tends to break, so any workaround you figure out will probably give you less grief.

The driver's door handle is broke, the back driver's door isn't opening.

Workaround - shave handles and add poppers.

LOL - Your definition of "alot of TLC" is light years different than mine.

To me, the Ranger I picked up needs "alot of TLC". This car just needs a good buff job and a tune up.

Ask Frank how that works. He understands, I bet.

The golf is a machine I never made mends with. (A vw rabbit diesel)
It would be a good candidate.
...

I would try one of those, with turbo..td04 brand new today is $239 delivered complete...thousands and thousands of them, thanks to modern subarus.

In fact I am putting one on my old subaru, eventually, because they are that cheap..all for 1psi of boost, let the rest blow away, to make up for a supercharger.

the golf with piggy backing, maybe a hacked extra injector...hey...you could really make something there. My only gripe aside from real cheap stuff in the body, was the lack of real air for the big bad diesel.

I understand this perfectly... that pipe is just stupid small. I'm going to open it up, and pipe it to the cowl vent.

Yay! Good work Topher. How many cars do you have now?? My recent purchase brings me up to 5, two of which run, and one of which moves under its own power :P
