I got my engine hoist back last night from a friend who was borrowing it. I also took some time to keep disassembling things. I got the wire harness removed from the engine and a few other things disconnected and out of the way. I think all that is left is to remove the A/C compressor, disconnect the driveshafts, and maybe a hose or two on the back of the engine (heater core). Then it should be ready to come out. That is the project for this weekend, get the old engine out.

Phew, that was a lot more work than I hoped, but the engine is out!

I removed the clutches off both engines. The friction disc from the old engine has more meat on it than the new engine, so thats getting swapped over. I still want to check out the turbo shaft play to see what is better. Then its time to clean up the new engine and put it back in.

Thanks.

I did move the actuator by hand and it seemed to move pretty smoothly, but i suppose its worth it to pop it apart and really know for sure while its out of the car.

This past weekend I worked on the car for a good while. I got the better of the two friction discs installed along with the transmission. I got the oil pan swapped over from the old engine to the new because the new one had been cracked. Then, I started removing the EGR valve and intake manifold. It was pretty caked up. I got it off last night and cleaned up up. WOW, that was a mess. The beginning of the intake manifold had probably 1/4" all the way around of coked up junk on it. Thankfully it scraped out fairly well, then I used some degreasers to take care of the rest of it. Still, it was a couple hour job to get it reasonably clean.

that's good to get it done now. I need to do mine but it's a pain to get all the intake allen heads off.
