2005 Insight Intro Thread

Hello all, just picked up a clean 2005 Insight with 93k miles on it. Previous owner pampered the car, had its battery replaced in 2011, did all services at a Honda dealer and installed an after market sub and cd player. I plan on dd'ing the car roughly 25mi a day. Today I was able to average 65mpg on my commute which is 90% city driving. Overall I love the car, mods that I plan on doing are carbon body panels and parts for the car. I'm thinking I'm going to start with seats as they're the easiest to make and then make a hood.

Body is already aluminum. Seems like a lot of cost-effort for very little gain.

Welcome to the forum, those latter year first gen Insights are rare.

Carbon?? Seems like a lot of work. Do you have experience with it?

Welcome!

Yeah I figured I wouldn't lose a lot of weight but I've made carbon parts for my cars in the past and enjoy doing it. I typically use fiber glass and tooling gel to make the molds and then use an epoxy and plain weave carbon for the part and then hand trim it using a inline router.

Several nice carbon fibre parts have been made for these cars on Insight Central: Honda Insight Forum by user Pascal28.
He seems very skilled. Search for his posts.

Loads of mods and tweaks available for these cars.

Now this is a good forum but you will want to be monitoring IC for latest Insight tech talk.

Welcome!

5-speed or CVT?

Carbon fiber boat tail would be fun. With a few other small mods = 100 mpg all day long at 50 mph.
