2006 Corolla doesn't show "9999" on ScanGauge in EOC

Sorry for the necroposting -- this thread is exactly what I was going to ask about. I've been trying a little EOC and the FE is reported at 1,200-1,500mpg, or similar. Not the 9,999 that I get when I've downshifted.

Odd, really. If I EIC, I see something 200-350mpg, depending on the speed I am traveling. So, EOC adds a digit...

Oh I have it on Hybrid mode, FWIW.

In EOC my MPG=10*MPH. Make sure to watch your RPM, MPH, and MPG on your instant gauge display. The ECU/PCM reports 61 RPM under EOC for me. Can you check your RPM output the next time you EOC? I want to know if it's 0 or ?!?!?!?

I get the same result regardless of hybrid/non-hybrid mode. It's not odd to me because we're operating outside of the expectations of the OBD-II protocol (GIGO).

Okay, I checked today: the RPM's are 0, but the GPH is 0.02 when EOC'ing. I guess this is just a quirk with the computer on the xA?

I would argue that it's the SG. To my knowledge the OBD-II protocol does not provide a GPH value. The GPH and MPG values are derived by the SG. I wouldn't be surprised if this is an artifact of "divide by zero" safeguards in the SG algorithm.

...FWIW, my 2009 Vibe with 1.8L (2ZR-FE) SIDI engine and 4-sp auto, does something similar. The SGII MPG.inst displal momentarily goes to 9999 then jumps back to a XXX.X MPG reading whenever I shift the tranny into N at highway speeds for coasting.

...the Pontiac Vibe is (was) just a Toyota Corolla Matrix with GM badge and modified external sheetmetal; SIDI = Spark Ignition Direct Injection.

...I will definitely watch during tomorrow's commute to work to see if I see the same 10-times-KPH relationship that you see.

I'm pretty sure it's a quirk with how Toyota reports something or other to the OBD port. My sister's 2002 Camry reports the same 0.02 gph any time the ignition is on and the engine is off. Climb in, click to on but don't start it, and it's already reporting fuel usage.

My Civic and Odyssey, on the other hand, will both report 0 gph every time the engine is off. My mom's nissan truck as well.
