As the Vulcan uses the same engine as the Ninja 500, a paralel twin, in it's cruiser frame people who have owned a Nainja 500 could coment on the engine and drive train.

Same basic engine as the Ninja but cammed differently for more grunt (bottom end torque) and probably geared differently with 4th gear at 6K RPM at 60 MPH.

It was on the DC craigslist. I had offered him $1200 and he accepted but found another buyer who would pay asking prices of $1300, so it's gone. Looked like about 60 MPG was possible maybe 70 with lower speeds and lower RPM in gears.

It had 16k miles, dent in the tank, and possibly dirty carbs, but that could just have been the liquid cooling and choke necessary during warmup.

Doesn't matter since it's gone. Thanks for the advice.

Mech

My father-in-law had a vulcan (around 03 I think) and he consistently got low to mid 60s for economy without any mods or hypermiling behavior. If I liked the looks of a cruiser I would totally go for one.
