GM BAS systems are paired with taller gears since the torque has been improved. If OP doesn't drive in the city there should be some fuel economy gain, but that gain can be bought with a different final drive if available, and engine mods (as with any car). In the city, the start-stop should help, and the regen should help a little (the alternator-motor is not very powerful considering the weight of the car though, so probably not much).

I don't know how the prices and maintenance costs compare so I don't know which would be more cost effective.
