Me too! Even EPA 30 mpg would be great. The current best is the Mazda5 at 24 combined. Next (and best full-size) is the Odyssey with 20 mpg combined.

That little sail panel window in front of the mirror makes it look a little like new Civic.

Hiya,

Here's a angle that shows some other features, like the deflector for the windshield wipers, and the gasketed hood gap. I wish like hell that they had gotten brave enough to just seal off the upper grill altogether!

So the new Prius has a full EV mode !!!!

Yes ! -Quote from their site " The EV mode drives solely under battery power for up to one half mile under certain conditions ."

In the words of my dad " Oh great! For what ? , So you have something to get you 2,500 feet closer to the gas station when you run out of gas ??"

This is the saddest thing I've seen in a long time.

One half mile of EV range at a top speed of 41 MPH.

Wow. That's progress.

The old Prius had that too. They had an EV button in all markets except the US. Many US drivers were installing aftermarket switches to enable that functionality. I'm glad they gave us the goodies this time.

Yes, it's only 1/2 mile (depending on battery charge), but that's part of why this car does so well in a city setting. 1/2 mile is a good number of city blocks. Just think of it as one more tool in the toolbox, to be used in the right situation.

IIRC the EV mode in Prius II is limited to 45km/h (28 mph) but has a range of 2km (1.25 mi).

Like activating it on the last 1/2 mile of a mileage competition so you roll over the finish line with the highest possible MPG and lowest possible SOC. (Hey, I got a bit of coaching from one of the best @ HybridFest last summer!)

But seriously, there are times when you don't want the ICE to start, like moving a car on the driveway, or ... do you remember the scene in the movie "L.A. Story" where Steve Martin drives over to his neighbour's house... 25 feet away? Classic commentary.
