I'm thinking the poster itself was an April fools gag left up.

I read an article the other day on CleanMPG about the 2012 Hyundai Accent(Kia's twin). It stated that the line up of small engines will only be available in Europe and N American models will get a 1.6l gas engine. If I can find the link, I'll post it later.

IOW, the same 1.6 that powers the current Accent and Rio in the USA.

Direct injection is a major improvement for Hyundai's 1.6 liter engine. I find conflicting reports whether the 2011 Accent has the old 110 hp 1.6 CVVT engine or the new 138 hp gamma 1.6 GDI engine with a timing chain, but the 2012 looks like it will have the newer engine.

"World Debut"? Every time I read something like that, they mean "Everywhere except the US".
I'd expect the two gas engines as the only options here.
Oh, and 10% extra weight for all the added crash safety requirements...

I own two kia's and which they'd finally make a diesel engine available in the states or a turbo that came off the factory line. I most likely will not happen here in the US. If they did I'd be the first one to line up for it. Unfortunately this will end up being a Europe and the rest of the world besides US and maybe Canada

No diesel in the USA. Just a 1.6 DI motor with stop/start. 30/40mpg seems to be the goal for every car maker now. Reminds me of a Seat Leon if anybody is familiar with that car.

The 2012 Kia Rio gets better MPG than some Hybrid cars, and it's going to get better
with a new Idle Stop and Go (ISG) system, coming soon to a dealer near you..
Kia Motors Idle Stop and Go System - YouTube
My wife is thinking seriously about trading in her old 2003 Corolla for one of these gas models..
She thinks it might be cool to get 40 mpg, and she liked the test drive too..

If I recall correctly, it's only on the automatic and only on the top trim level...
Good for the average driver, but I think a manual without ISG is more hypermile-able than this one.
