48.5 mpg tank 2011 Fiesta

Just got back to San Diego from Vegas and got 48.5 mpg topping my previous best tank of 43.5. Prior to air dam, partial lower grill block and 40psi my best tank was 40.5. Even had the AC on for about 1/3 of the trip. Gonna hit 50 soon.

Fuel log or it didn't happen.

If I ran a whole tank at 55ish I think I could match that with the Cobalt, but I'd guess you were going a little faster. Freeway speeds I'm in the high 30's.

What was your speed? I know your Fiesta is a bit different than my Focus, but the Fiesta are geared lower than my Focus.

Running down the highway at 55, I get significantly better mileage than 65, 70.

I can't imagine driving across the desert at 55 MPH, but I bet that would have broken 50!

I was travelling between 65 and 70 and drafting whenever I could.

Yep, find a windbreaker and you can get 55 MPH mileage at 70 MPH. I had one over 50 MPG in my Fiesta with the powershift, maybe more this summer on some highway trips but I prefer the older US routes at 55 and sightseeing versus the Interstate.

I was bored out of my mind going through (over) the desert at 350MPH! Did make for a lot of nice pictures and I know where I'm going when the Zombie apocalypse comes.

The poewershift's 6th gear is a bit higher than the 5M's top gear. I, too, prefer going at 55MPH.

Last summer I made a trip from Syracuse NY to Albany NY and back. On the way there, I went on the Interstate with speeds of 65-70 (I don't speed for fear of speeding tickets).

On the way back I took US 20 (it was actually a few less miles to where I live). US 20 through NY is FULL OF HUGE HILLS ... yet even without any eco driving, I got 45 MPG on the way back! I slowed down on hills, but I always do that anyway. Average speed was pretty low, though.

Low forties are easily attainable with the Fiesta mt at highway speed (70) without eco driving. The mileage killer on my wife's car is the short trips usually under 5 miles and the late up shifts.

Does it have the select shift buttons? My parents escape has select shift ... but it really doesn't allow you to shift up very soon. It's only useful to put it in M mode to stop it from always downshifting so easily (constantly).
