This is a good thread! I currently have a 1.5l auto Tercel, which is great, but before that, I had a 3.0l v6 Taurus, which weighed at least 1k lbs more and got much poorer mpg. Ironically, I chose that Taurus over a Neon that would almost certainly have given me much better mileage due to the smaller engine and body size. Live and learn! Nearly two years later, when the Taurus started to go, I made a better choice and got a subcompact instead of a mid-size. Now I'm getting 40 mpg over the same routes where I used to get 23 mpg.

I did just realise this 'failure thread' is in the section marked 'Success Stories'

I am also guilty of enjoying the power thing too much, I have 205 tyres (on a car the size of a Polo) and it has too big an engine for the size and weight of car.

And I am too fat.

I bought an automatic aveo. It was still under warranty, used. I don't really regret my decision, that transmission hates anything under 42mph.

I love the car though. It handles nice, and does excellent in parkinglots... I just don't like that my MPG is 28... though I drive mostly city, so thats not THAT bad.
