50mpg achievement!

I did it, sort of. I hit my goal for this summer with a (short) tank of fuel, and it was way better than I had expected... I borrowed a coil pack from my other L61 car and started hypermiling like normal(thanks to “me and my metro” for the spare coil shipped to me btw)... now I’m not entering the data in my fuel log because I don’t trust it entirely, and I’ll update if future tanks reflect similar data...

The tank might have been a little overfilled(splashed out the top) and the next pump I filled at wasn’t digital(but it clicked off right at 3.5 gal)

I have 195/65 tires on front and 205/65 on rear but same make/model(Mastercraft Glacier-Grip II) and I’ve lost all of my belly pan mods due to winter not being fair... but I’ve added a ported intake manifold, freshly cleaned injectors and the cars been lowered 2”...

That being noted, I drove 193.1mi and used 3.5 gal of fuel, for about 55mpg!

Yay! If I really did make my goal, my next goal is 65mpg...

It’s also worth noting that I did a baseline run to determine engine load at 55mph, and found that it takes 25-27% load to hold 55mph on flat road... engine warm, temps in fifties tire pressure normal... instant MPG was 50-54 depending on how steady my foot could be held...

Feels great to hit 50! MPG, that is.:o

Glacier-Grip!

Congrats on hitting 50.

It’s nice to hit 50+mpg, especially on winter tires... car has been great since all the work done (about $1k worth)... trip averages on two lane roads are in the high fifties to as much as 60mpg indicated in mildly warm weather... things are looking up for sure!

What kind of % load is it at during a warm idle? My car idles at 23% load, and a constant 55 mph on flat ground(which I don't have around here) I THINK is around 28-32% load. My instant MPG at that speed is around the high 30's, I THINK.

Excellent! Always fun to beat the new cars at this game.

Congrats!

Warm idle with lights off jumps between 11 and 12% load... EOnC at 1k RPM is right at 11%...

In warm weather yesterday(80*) I drove from Bickmore to Glenville, using WV-4 and WV-5(95-ish miles), and averaged over 60mpg indicated (68 on one leg) for the whole trip... I wanted to brag since this might be my new commute...

Frank Lee 04-13-2018 05:13 PM

I wouldn't brag about a 95 (or 190?) mile commute.
