50mpg Barrier finally broken!

Im driving an '02 Echo, with a good list of mods, and in rural driving conditions. Lots of highway, with 30% city or so. Biggest mod is killswitch, but I don't use P&G.

I managed 551.7 miles on 10.8 gallons, giving 51 MPG

And this is WITHOUT these major planned mods:
-full bellypan (big deal on these echos)
-Kammback
-Front wheel covers&skirts

I'm pretty stoked for what is to come!

So how or when are you using your kill switch.

I don't use Pulse and Glide because the constant speed changes seem very unattractive for the car's health and my health too. I still use the killswitch by shutting the engine down when I would naturally come to a stop. Before a stop sign, i may pulse my speed up a little to coast longer to the sign, but that is the extent of my killswitch use.

Nice job! Engine off coasting didn't work for me. It caused my knock censor to go off twice so I decided to stop that. Pulse and glide does work very well for me when there is no traffic.

Congrats!

What part of the country are you in? If it's a cold weather part, the numbers are only going to get better as winter departs.

I'm in Illinois, the center of the US. We've had a pretty brutal winter..long and cold. Buut, the temps are climbing now, and I can definitely attribute some of my recent gains to the warm-ups. It's only gone from ~20*F to ~50*F, so I'm excited for when temps climb to 80+*F.

And thanks everyone!!
