54mpg escort!

Finally had a chance for nearly pure highway miles. From Columbus Ohio to near Philadelphia Pa. Very mountainous/hilly area. 427.9 miles on 7.912 gallons. My commute average is around 41mpg right now, so I had no idea how much this car was capable of on the highway, maybe it's time to invest in a scangauge??? I also got a 47mpg tank with my first 500 and 600 mile tanks on this trip.

It was quite exciting

Congrats! A scangauge would definitely help you dial things in and see higher numbers.

Thanks, and this was all done with an ATX. Coasting with engine on in neutral. I really learned alot about driving better on this trip. Over 2000 miles of seat time helped me to focus on what works and what doesn't. I believe a HAI will work great for this car becase the one day I did a short trip it was crazy hot out and the mpg was outstanding, better than I have ever seen, but without a scangage I can not quantify it... I really developed a feel for climbing long grades on this trip and I think it helped a lot on the 54mpg tank. Hopefully I can get some of this success to translate into the commute.

Wow, great job! There's just something about those ZX2s. 242K miles is impressive, too.

Nice, I've wanted to borrow my brother's Escort for a tank to see what it can do. It's Automatic though

It doesn't have that many miles on it, but when I fixed it back up to run again, It had 171k miles on the engine, tranny, and body. SOOO much sludge. I've cleaned it up though and it's running strong at 172k!

Nice job. With the money you are saving get the scangauge. They pay for themself quick and make driving more fun...some have stated like a video game. I agree.
Your percentage above EPA is incredible! Keep up the good work.
