56mpg with snow tires???

I kept my snow tires on my Civic VX for a few extra months while saving up money to buy new summer tires, my summer tires were bald and one lost a wheel weight so it shook, we also had 13" of snow a month ago!
Most years I pull my snow tires off as soon as it's 50F for more then a few days, but it's been in the 70's and even 80F for a bit and I used two full tanks of gas in this warmer weather while still having snow tires, normally in the winter I get 45-47mpg and in the summer with summer tires get 50-54mpg (I haven't updated my online gas log in a LONG time but keep a note book in the car) but after it got warm I noticed my last two tanks of gas were each 56mpg, pretty standard mix of city and highway, nothing else has changed, I fill up at the same gas pump at the same gas station every time.

My snow tires are at least 5 years old 155/80 R13 Michelin X-ice (pre-green-X) on steel rims and my old tires were non-LRR 175/70 R13 Michelins on stock alloy VX rims and I now have new 175/70 R13 Michelin Defenders (LRR tire) and on the way home from installing them I filled up with gas, pumped them up to max pressure and have about 30 miles on my tank of gas... so we will see what does better!

Actually, of the various sets of tires currently in my posession, my set of Michelin snow tires (probably 2-3 years older than yours) have the 3rd best rolling resistance properties. http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...e92-19126.html
