Talking 58.417 mpg!!!

My best yet! I filled it to the first click of the pump and was surprised to get well over 300 miles before it hit half a tank. I started to wonder if the gauge was working correctly. I ended up filling it again before it hit empty, I had about 50 miles between gas stations. I can usually put about 10 gallons in, I only got 9.16 before the pump clicked.

I was actually going a bit faster than usual for this tank. It seems like 2000 RPM and 50 MPH is about ideal for this Honda. I've tried slower cruising speeds and never saw anything this high. My previous best of 54 MPG was also around 50 MPH. I'm not sure if the engine is more efficient at that speed, or if it's just longer coast times and more momentum to take me up hills.

I also replaced the radiator about halfway through the tank when it started leaking. I was overheating for only a couple of miles. Even if it ran more efficiently while overheating, it wasn't for very long. And I had the partial grill block out for a while until my new radiator arrived.

I also did one (small) burnout during this tank!

Now I'm wondering if I should be revving the engine higher. I'm usually in 5th gear by 30-32 MPH. Which is something like 1200 RPM. Maybe I should reserve 5th gear for speeds above 40 MPH?

If you can repeat it you have your answer. Longer coast time and momentum up hills can be a big help.
Do you have any type of instantaneous mpg instrumentation? Big help imo, can help you find out were you get the best mpg with out having to run full tanks. Keep up the good work.

I really wish I had an instantaneous MPG display, but I don't know of one that works on Honda's weird twin injector setup.

I can't believe I used to get 38 MPG in the same car. Very few mods, mostly driving technique. And mostly guessing, with no instrumentation.

Awesome job! You are where I want to be with my sentra. Inspired to focus on my driving and possibly getting off my butt and starting some more aero mods!

My advice is to never exceed 2000 RPM and never brake or idle. Works well on a '91 Civic anyway. I should do more aero mods, I'm driving a brick.

Technique rules, but with no feedback instrumentation that is very impressive. Keep it up.

I would be careful of showing so many decimals. Being able to show 3 significant digits is optimistic. Better call it 58 and be done with it. Still congratulations. The next tank will confirm.
