Though I am not much of an aircooled fan (I love looking at them but wouldn't really consider buying one) a 356 coupe replica thanks to it's lightness etc could be appealing also this idea of a TDI (diesel) 356 popped into my head after hearing on the radio about an electric 356 and afterwards looking it up on YouTube:

I hope you realize that the rear end of the VW is light years ahead of the ditto on the Porsche.

Both are awesome! But if I had to choose one as a daily driver, for any weather, with a passenger, it'd be the VW; no contest.

I like comparisons of this type - the aim is different of course - speed versus efficiency - but the approaches to it seem the same, and of course technology improves the result. One for the "Interesting Aerodynamic Cars" thread - home of the old car geeks

Those air cooled 50's Porsches were also very hard to pick up on police radar. All rounded surfaces front and back to reflect the radar signal everywhere except back at the source and with no large flat radiator in front to reflect a strong radar pulse.

This stealthiness is also true of my aerocivic since it is mostly rounded front and back and its radiator is hidden deep inside the rounded nose.

Apparently the Type 64 could do 180 km/h from 40 hp, although it never raced.

Honestly I don't know (nor do I care ) all I know is I found it in a book I have about Porsche (in which the very first car pic is of an Auto Union -> Audi ironically )

I was more focusing on aerodynamics in the past and now and the fact that for the past 60-70 years it seems we haven't focused much on that

I don't expect many people will, its just the more I read about Porsche, Ledwinka, Gans et al I think Ing. Dipl. Porsche did less than perhaps his reputation suggests in the design of Hitler's favourite wheels - which in terms of everyday economy cars at least seems to have been a long running dead end.
