78mpg commute to work this morning (Honda Insight)

Saweet!
2 days a week I commute from queens,ny to greenwich,ct
It is 35 miles each way.
trip average according to onboard comp: 78.0mpg
80% highway
55mph hwy average
70-80% lean burn on hwy.
i hope for 80mpg on the next trip!
this is my best commute so far, maybe the warm weather is making lean burn easier to engage and sustain!
.. Nights are more traffic, so it'll have to wait for the next morning, or late night commute.

frank

good work!

I'm getting more jealous off all you lean-burners by the day.

Very impressive, I wish I had a highway commute. What is the lean burning feature?

Here's what lean burn is.

You'll want to scroll down to "Honda lean burn systems"

Cars with lean burn are the VX, HX, Civic hybrid and Insight (5-speed)

Thanks Everyone,

lean burn was on:

1992-1995 civic vx (eg hatchback)
1998-2005 civic hx (coupe)
2000-2006 insight (5spd only)
2002-2005 civic hybrid

the vx is a cheaper option, that can basically get a constant 70mpg+ on the highway, and without any hybrid related expenses.
...and it is easier than the insight to engage/sustain lean burn.
the hx will do maybe 50mpg from what I have heard.

lean burn is:
