6th gen Honda Civic owners - Gearing Question
Alright Guys,
Up until now I haven't really worried about the car too much since I've been all city miles with the occasional trip home down the interstate. Well now that I have a job with a 140 mile round trip, gas adds up. Currently I need tires and I have considered doing a trans swap since my throw out bearing is noisy and I can do the swap in a day if I line up a cheap transmission.
Current:
Trans FD: 4.058 5mt
Tires: 175/70/13 chinese tires
75mph rpm: 3171rpm
Option B:
Trans FD: 3.722 5mt 96 CX trans
Tires: 175/65/15 Michelin energy saver a/s
75mph rpm: 2749rpm
Option C:
Trans FD: 3.25 5mt 92 HX trans
Tires: 175/70/13 Michelin defender
75mph rpm: 2540rpm
My entire drive is completely flat besides the occasional overpass for a split second, but its an easy drive here in North Eastern Arkansas. But considering all of these options cost me relatively little in the gain for less NVH from the motor and tires and could handle water better, which would be geared better for the commute? I also just bought a scan gauge 2 to start testing out so I may adjust my commute speed but 75mpg generally keeps me from getting ran over by traffic.

At 75 MPH, I'd want the tallest gearing available. I drive 45 MPH with the tallest gearing (2.954 FD) available! 
There was no HX in '92. CX or VX. Same gearing, I believe.

What are the lowest geared trans? Can you give me more spec's on them with year models they can be found?

88-91 HF 2.954 FD non Cal
Be better if you had the hf engine for the torque at low rpm's

Yup I wish! But with cost of engine's vs trans cost at a pick and pull I can pass. What cars had the 3.25 ratio? I dont think i will any 88-91's. 92-00 is my range for D series trans.

Yes, maybe he was. I have the 1993 CX tranny with the 3.25, running 13" 1992 VX wheels, and 175/70-r13 Michelin Defenders, which are LRR. The VX wheels look like the HX wheels, but are an inch smaller. They are alsk lighter, something like 9.7lbs. I love the whole set up.
