96 geo 1.0L manual trans gear swap

here is the deal, Im having my trans rebuilt. I would like to swap to a taller 5th gear. from what I have read I can use the 1.3L manual trans 5th. do I have more options? Is this a direct swap? how much better mpg are you guys getting? I get 47-53mpg 100% stock.

thanks,
Alex

IIRC, the gear ratios are the same on the 1.0 and the 1.3, including 5th, but the final drive is different, so you want to swap the whole transmission (or have a custom 5th made).

Metro taller transmission swap thread: +5% efficiency gain (taller final drive)

I swear I read something about just 5th gear. Maybe what I read was the taller 5th with the other differential. I don't really want all the gears taller. Guess ill have em build it stock. Thanks!

If it costs the same I would go with all gears longer, why have a larger gap between 4th and 5th when all of them could be spread more evenly.

Well I don't think I would do good with that. I think my foot would be in the gas more with the conditions I drive it
