Has anyone considered building on one of those platforms which hook into the trailer hitch point and it add a couple foot platform behind the car to strap stuff to. it seems like an ideal solution because you dont have to deal with any extra wheels and you could build a full boattail on one if you wanted and it would be removable. it might limit the weight of stuff you could carry but would be way easier than a trailer.

seems like a logic choice to me aswell to have it attached on the vehicle rear, but i suppose that in the states there are regulations aswell on how long your load can stick out of the rear. in my country i think it's 1,50 meter, and on the front it's forbidden to have something stick out.

with a trailer i suppose you need to respect norms and regulations and have it tested and insured.

If you had a (semi-permanently mounted) 1-wheel trailer that moved (non-articulated) with your car, that was faired into your car's shape with all of the normal rear lights and the car's license plate moved to the back of the trailer, could it legally be considered a rear extension of your car and not a trailer?

They apparently offer a generator carrier as well. You could extend the range of EV's with a little rewiring, I bet.

I've always wanted a Uhaul sport trailer:
U-Haul rentals: Cargo trailers, utility trailers and sport trailers

From what I've found searching, they don't sell them though.

Time may be short but heres my plan.
We have a trip of 7hrs in october. If SHMBO will let me, i think I;m inspired to build a double hitch trailer for her Saturn Vue. I've got the plans mostly finished.
Single wheel as the trailer will taper in both directions. Temporary Kamm (she wont let me "mess up" her nice car) to get the air from the car to the trailer.
1 sheet of 1/2" ply will make the bottom and front. The 2 triangles from the bottom will be saved for a future belly taper for the trailer. 1 sheet 1/4" will make the sides and rear. 2 sheets of luan will make the hinged top. I think side hinging will pesent less stress to the top/cover. The rear wil be flat and just large enough for a plate and trailer light. Bed will be 6' over all just short of 8' per double hitch directives.
If this works, I'll post the plans. they should work for any small SUV or minivan.
