Aftermarket Cruise Control

I have a 2007 Aveo and the numbers are getting good, but I think I would benefit from a cruise control which it did not come with. It is a manual 5 speed. I have even used a stick on the trottle which evens out the rpms at speed but want something i can adjust on the run.

Did they ever off a CC option on the Aveos? Might be able to get a dealer kit or something and install that

If you are getting CC because you're tired of thinking on long trips, it might be worthwhile. If you're looking at CC to get better mileage, don't bother. Using a few simple techniques (DWL, DWB) you will be able to get better numbers than CC no problem. Take a look at this thread. If you try out P&G which will be no problem with your manual, you will see numbers that CC can only dream of. Using P&G I averaged over 74 MPGus coming to work today (70 miles) in a 2001 5sp TDI Jetta.

Hey we have things in common!

Check the CC DIY here!

http://www.aveoclub.net/phpBB3/viewt...hp?f=22&t=1171

We are supposed to be able to install the switch ourselves by just buying the switch at the dealer. Since our rides are drive by wire, all we have to do is splice in 2 wires. But some say the 2007 and up are missing those 2 wires if it didn't come with CC. I haven't checked mine yet. Those 2 wires enter a harness under the dash. Now, I haven't had time to try this but do look into it as many people have pulled it off!

As soon as I get a little time I'm going to look into this. Can't pass up something that easy.

I have a cruise control on my Ford Ranger that I used whenever possible before I got turned on to hypermiling. I wish I could convert it to throttle control with brake pedal shutoff; that would be nice.

Back in the 70's I remember my Dad hooking up a "cruise control" to our 1976 Chevy Suburban with a gas guzzling 454 ci engine in it. It was actually a throttle control that locked the gas pedal in place. From what I remember it was a box mounted to the underside of the dash that had a cable that attached to the underside of the gas pedal. When you reached the speed you wanted to "cruise" at you simply locked the pedal in at that position. Problem was you want faster down hill and slower uphill. From what I have read on here that would be perfect for increasing FE as real cruise control would work the throttle to keep your speed constant. Any ideas? Has anyone seen a cruise unit like this anywhere? I would be interested in one for my Aveo.

Ok, I will admit that I have a piece of 3/4" dowel about 20" long with a wire hose clamped to it so that when against the pedal and the wire stuck under the edge of the dash it will give 47 mph on the long flat stretch that I have to drive every day. I found the correct adjustment through trial and error. It works, but I would prefer a CC. Like you say it slows going up hill and speeds up going down hill.
