Frank -

And it looks like it was owned by a proto-Ecomodder :

Quote:
During the years 1910 and 1911, the Franklin Automobile Company built a limited number of special sports cars. This 4-cylinder car was built for S.G. Averell for his use in Puerto Rico during the winter months. Averell enjoyed participating in gasoline economy runs and, in 1913, he competed in the Long Island Economy Run in this car.

It would be fun to know more about those old runs, the cars, and the techniques.

Based on the blurb, I'm thinking this was a one-off custom for the well-to-do owner. Like buying a turn-key Cobra replicar.

They are only for lease. I believe they monthly payments are going to be just over 500 a month.

Just think, it was probably all on dirt roads, with a low compression engine on low octane fuel, with manually set timing advance.
