Air dam i picked up

Thirteen year old daughters are fun (sometimes). Mine was "very embarrassed" because I pulled a u-turn to go back and pick up this nice little air dam from the side of the road. I have no idea what it fell off of but I think I know what it's going on.. my little hoopdie. Maybe just a little trimming and some zip ties, not sure yet. Looks like it will be mighty close to the ground so maybe a little more trimming. I'll get a better pic tomorrow maybe.
What ya think?

I think that is an excellent time to re-purpose what many others would simply consider trash. It probably came off of a pickup or van considering how tall it is.

I might have two of those myself....

Seems they like to fall off:
Front valance panel and snow

Nice! I’ll bet that’s the exact air dam, it sure looks like it. My first thoughts were either a Chevrolet Volt(way off!) or a Chevrolet Colorado.

any reason I can't leave it full height? I mean, closer to the ground is better right? I know it'll scrape on a lot of approaches but who cares as long as it doesn't rip it loose or off.

Not necessarily. Air dams add frontal area, and they help up to a point, but too big will just add drag(Vs optimally sized. Too big may still reduce drag from stock.). You don't want to prevent ALL air from going under the car. Hard to tell from the angle of the picture, but it looks like you would have maybe an inch and a half of ground clearance? That is not a whole lot. I have 4 inches of ground clearance in my accord thanks to its front wheel deflectors, and it scrapes more than my brother's LOWERED miata.

Try out the air dam as is, get a baseline for coasting/mpg. I would strongly recommend keeping both the top and bottom parts of the air dam as they are shaped for good mounting and good airflow respectively. If you want to shorten it, try cutting it in the middle and sliding it up, then bolting it together.

I'm jealous!!

I'm so going to do that when my daughter is old enough to be embarrassed by it. Right now, she's still young enough to think it would be fun...

It would be funny if you bought a truck just to put it on.

I also cannot help myself and collect what other people call trash. And people are sometimes embarrassed by what i do.

Got to control it a bit so it does not reach hoarding level :)

The fact that people throw stuff away or fail to see the usefulness of stuff puts me in despair regarding the future of the human race.

I totally am actively looking to buy a truck. This corolla was bought as a temporary car because i sold my truck.
Ironically to your comment, I'm looking at trucks at insurance auctions that have damage. Amazing clairvoyance there!

And yes teoman, I junk pick with the best of them. No shame in it to me. I've even asked the people who threw something away (a lawn mower last summer) if it worked. Sold the lawn mower on Craigslist for $75
