All season tire recommendations for a Civic HX?

What are your favorite all season tires? My owners manual calls for a P185/65R14 85S tire for the 1997 Honda Civic HX. This car has the stock 14" rims on it.

The Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max is an excellent tire that gives good fuel economy. Really, I'd just to go tirerack.com and plug in your tire size. They have a feature to sort by LRR tires only. I'd make my selection from that list of tires.

I did exactly that about 6 weeks ago. Really wanted the Michelin HydroEdge with Green X even though $90 each. They were out of stock absolutely everywhere, back ordered at Michelin.

I ended up getting Kumho eco Solus HM KR 22's. They're decent but I wish the Michelins had been available at the time. I couldn't wait because my previous Kumho set had tread separation at about 54K miles.

Kumho labels them as eco but for all I know, they could be referring to an environmentally manufacturing process. I didn't see anything on their site specifically indicating improved mpg. I'm running them at about 50-52 psi. With about 2-3 K miles on them now (break in accomplished) I'd say they are at least as good as the previous set (not "eco" labeled) and just maybe a bit better for FE.

Tirerack does have a test they did with the tires. They are pretty good, not the best out there, but far from the worst.

First I tried to find used tires, but everything in size 14 that I found was not worth putting on the car. I have found really good used matching sets of four Michelin's for $100.00 in the past at this local used tire place, but no luck there on size 14's.

My first choice would be the Michelin Energy Saver A/S, but they are not available in size 14!!! That does not make sense at all. I'm going to e-mail Michelin and ask why this tire is not available in size 14.

I'm thinking of putting the Michelin X-Ice on this car for the winter. Then I will buy an all season tire for spring.

Michelin X-Ice sounds good to me. I have a spare pair of HX rims and plan to put two snows on the front wheels for winter. I know, should be on all four wheels, but rims + tires costs serious money if you get four at a time!

If you put snow tires on the front but not the back, and you drive around a turn, and the back of your car goes skidding out of your lane and you hit a tree or an oncoming car, that REALLY costs serious money.
