Driving while texting is arguably just as dangerous as driving while drunk yet its only a misdemeanor in my state, whereas DWI laws here can go up to a felony.

Cell phone jamming comes to mind but I dont think its legal in most places.

Apparently now it's arguably more dangerous:

The number of teenagers who are dying or being injured as a result of texting while driving has skyrocketed [...] Researchers at Cohen Children's Medical Center in New Hyde Park estimate more than 3,000 annual teen deaths nationwide from texting and 300,000 injuries.
According to the study, deaths from texting & driving now exceed deaths from drinking and driving among young people.

Some thoughts:

I have recently been driving around in my 3500 dually. Why? Because if someone hits me I have more, roughly twice, the mass to dissipate their inertia (their mass times their velocity squared) than I do in my old Camry. Now, If I were to run into a tree or a cement barrier (crash test), then I would rather be in my Camry. Because in the crash test, the cement barrier doesn't dissipate much, if any, of the incoming inertia. And the Camry is designed to be safer in that type of accident.

Further, If an auto runs into my 3500, they are likely to pancake under my rear torqlift trailer hitch or my front hitch. So I may not be as safe in a safety test, but I am likely safer in a real accident that I didn't cause.

Definitely more dangerous than driving drunk. I often text n drive on my way home from work to keep myself awake, that or browse Imgur. However, I only do it when I'm the only one around (I get off at 2am). As soon as I see headlights behind me, or tail light ahead, away the phone goes. I'll be honest, one of the reasons for upgrading my car situation was for press to read texts, and more voice control to make calls without having to touch my phone.

I drove to Mom's house for Dad's birthday on Tuesday and brought cinnamon Tic Tacs and one of these:

I chew the Tic Tacs and those help me stay awake, but soon the sugar starts bothering my stomach. I stopped using the hand gripper when I realized I was weaving within my lane.

Sometimes staying awake can be difficult!
