Another cop stop
As I was driving through Easley, SC today during a light snow, I got pulled over by a city cop. The excuse he gave he gave for pulling me over was that he didn't see my lights on and that he wanted to make sure that they were in working order (but there were a lot of cars out on the road without their lights on at the time). He did the usual license/registration/insurance routine, then after about 5 minutes 2 more police cars pull up, then he gets out of his car, gives me back my documents (no ticket or warning, just curiousity), and then he and the other cops start asking me questions about my car. Then as I was driving off here comes yet another city police car, too late to join the gathering of what must have been about half of the cops in Easley. I'm gotten totally used to this by now so it doesn't bother me. I figure that once they get educated about my car, they would be less likely to make another curiousity traffic stop in the future. At least this one stop satisfied the curiousity of a good portion of all the cops in Easley.

It's not exactly the kind of car you'd want to use to run guns or drugs...

ahhh no....definitely not!
Over here i would be raked over coals for that many mods.
Mike, When filling out your insurance renewal form, do you tick the box that asks if your car is modified in any way?
I get asked that question upon renewal and i shudder every time i say no. My mods are tiny really and are conducive to driving slower (full grille block, anyone?) but you know insurance companies right?!

There was a guy out on the wet coast who had done some customizing on a spaceship theme, and wanted to take some pics. He saw some buildings that looked like a good backdrop, and followed a truck heading that way. Unfortunately, this meant that he had passed a security gate, and he had a merry time and a big bill before he got out again.

My insurance company has never asked that question.

Do cops pull you over often because of the aero mods?

That's exactly what Mike wants the cops to think There's a lot of nooks and crannies under that coroplast, bellypan, etc. There a missles that will fit in a Civic only if it has an extended boattail.
There's a saying... "The darkest place is under the light."

This is the 8th time since I started aeromodding the car 4 years ago. Its been well over a year since the last time I got pulled. They'll usually give some bogus reason as the reason for pulling me over, then go through the license/registration/insurance check routine, then when they bring back the documents, they'll pop the question (What's all the stuff on the car for?) and the real reason that they pulled me over, curiousity. One cop was honest about it and said that I hadn't done anything wrong, but that he just wanted to ask me questions about the car. Its gotten so routine that I don't get that sinking feeling anymore when I see a blue light coming up in the rear view.
