Just saw it on Yahoo. I apologize in advance for re-posting this, since I always seem to be the Nth person to post these things even though I search first.

You should drive I-10 in Louisiana. Average speed has to be 55 MPH while people are waking up at 10 am.

Two weeks ago I was driving north on I-81. The posted speed limit was 65. I was doing 55. A police car pulled up behind me and stayed right on my tail for about ten miles. I think he was trying to intimidate me. I believe the minimum speed limit was 45, so I was right dead center!

That 450 mile trip did give me my best tank yet, 64.3 mpg, but I do acknowledge not everyone else on the road appreciated it. I'll do the same trip tomorrow and will bump it up 5 to 60 mph.

I first found this site looking to share / get information after being pulled over for driving too slow.

At least in my case the cop didn't try to write me a ticket for something which isn't illegal - my slow speed just made him suspect I might be intoxicated because it just seemed like such a strange thing to do.

Half a year and +40%mpg later I guess I should be thanking that cop.
Among other things I was inspired to look up the relevant vehicle code, and now, thanks indirectly to him, I actually drive even slower on the highway than I was at the time (45 instead of 55) with the confidence that I am not actually breaking any laws.
(Also that, contrary to popular belief, it is actually safer to drive slower Speed and Crash Risk - Executive Summary and Traffic Safety Center Newsletter Winter 2008, Volume 5, No. 1: Traffic Safety Culture: the role of speed)

And, thanks to him, I found this site, which inspired me to start making eco-mods to compliment my new driving style, which helped me go from 20mpg I was getting by hypermiling to the 26+ I am getting now.

That's why they make more than one lane.

...and most people using this "slow lane" are very willing to share it with others. I personally have no need for the "fast lane" or the "passing lane" so I leave them available for the people who need them.

A couple of nights ago, some jerk got behind me in the slow lane as I was doing about 57. Apparently he was going for the next exit, 1/2 mile away. Rather than going around, he had the nerve to start flashing his brights at me. Needless to say, he was doing 45 by the time he actually made it to his exit.

This was at night. Traffic was averaging about 60 (in a 65) and there were four completely empty lanes to my left.

I think he thought you might be a little tipsy.

I was EOC up to a red light, and this woman honked and waved at me to move and I didn't even check up again. I pulled up beside her in the turn lane and gave her the finger. (The big thumbs up that is) and said "Hey we got here at the same time, the light is still red, and I saved gas my way." Then smiled and drove off. She was in a big ole Jeep.
