Avion making news again. Now on Jalopnik

From Canada To Mexico On One Tank of Diesel

I guess he recently made another trip from border to border averaging 119mpg. Not bad for a car designed in his garage 26 years ago.

Another car that should have been able to be at the X-Prize. Of course, he's using diesel which gets reduced when converted to the gasoline equivalent -- plugging in his numbers into the X-Prize spreadsheet, the Avion got 107MPGe! Totally impressive for a 26 year old design build in his garage.

In terms of aero and lightness I love that car, its pretty handsome and more practical too. I would prefer it to be FWD (I like the power pack and transmission at one end for max passenger space) but its damn good.

Is the engine the Diesel from a Smart ?

I believe it is the Smart diesel engine, yes. Which is set up for rear wheel drive...
