I love the back-up camera on my wife's Explorer. When I'm backing up to hook up the trailer the camera lets me put the ball of the tow hitch in exactly the right spot without any guesswork

Her screen is pretty big, too. It gives a good clear pic of what's behind you, it's not all ghetto like the old hand made double din back up camera I put in Turtle

But the person who does NOT own a boat now MUST pay for that "feature" even though they didn't WANT or NEED it.

Yeah but that won't affect too many of us on this site for years. I wonder what the average age of the cars on EM is . . . .hmmm

A long time ago I hit a kid on a bike while backing out of a place I just delivered a pizza to. Knocked her out into traffic, and luckily there weren't any cars coming so she was just a little scraped up, not dead. What I wouldn't have given for a back up camera on that old station wagon. Still haunts me to this day

I don't know about Fresnel lenses, but I remember seeing many Japanese and Korean vans featuring an extra mirror hanging on their tailgates for a similar purpose.

I hope we get side video mirrors on new cars - the sooner the better.

Though I don't believe they'll turn into an effective replacement for conventional mirrors so soon, it may not be so bad to have them available as an option.

So pay more attention. (I bet you did for quite some time after that, maybe still do)

Maybe some radar based breaking system combined with the camera or some **** would have prevented it...maybe. Making sure you knew your surroundings and paying attention. More and more people are gladly shifting responsibility off of themselves and onto tech. and I think it's a very very unwise thing to do.

At the end of the day if you run over a pedestrian but your car was equipped with some autonomous breaking system, no one's suing the manufacture, they're suing OR prosecuting the driver.

They certainly will sue the manufacturer, they are the one with the deep pockets.

Why do we have the 1980 Emergency Medical Service Act? We have it because one person would save another's life and the survivor would sue the rescuer, but what if you save them from danger? They can sue! Woman Sued for Rescue Effort in Car Crash - ABC News
People sue cell phone manufacturers and associated companies for distracted driving. As far as I can tell, people have not tried suing car manufacturers for distracted driving, but there have been lawsuits against gun manufacturers for shootings. How about these just from 2016?

This was the funniest meme I could find. Searching for "funniest memes of all history" was about as effective as you might think:
