Bar Type Display

Is there an instrument like the SG etc. which has a bar type display for instant MPG ? Something like this one which is the same as the one I had on holiday earlier this year.

A study I was reading about (for older cars in a mag so not online) recalls research designers did into digital instruments of the kind popular in the 80s onwards and still used in some cars like the Prius. They noted that although we can read numbers quickly, a trend upwards or downwards is more quickly interpreted by a graph or gauge.

This is the same reason I spent money on a rev counter for my Aygo instead of using the RPM gauge on the SG.

fyi, I've coupled a mpguino to an analog gauge:
Analog MPG meter.

Thats the kind of thing, is there a digital version for OBDII or as a piggyback from the SG or similar ? I don't have a (Apple or Android style) smartphone so those kind of integrated apps would be interesting but not immediately useful for me.

There's a gap for an SG2 type device but maybe updated a little with this type of display. SG seem to have gone for a lower cost market instead, I suppose thats a quicker and easier product to market for them.

sunpro tach come vpw mpg gauge:
Atmel AVR 2004 Design Contest

Also graphical displays exist of course:
Analogue MPG display using an OLED?

Not sure how the 9100 will work on a diesel, you might have to do it yourself if you "want it done right" I prefer the analog to the bar fwiw.

Also the standard mpguino LCDs can do a little bar graph thingie too with custom programming:
Enhancements to MPGuino code -- bargraph display, etc.

Interesting, I thought the Arduino is for pre OBD vehicles like early 90s Hondas and so on so I never looked at them.

As an aside, does anyone know of a kit to interface to OBD ?

hmm... arduino is a development board for the atmega. The mpguino started out as an injector monitor based on arduino, obduino is an obd based monitor that started out on arduino also.
