Slap a turbocharger on the 2.5L and it can be set to outperform the 6-banger and eventually be able to run even taller gears

You might remember cam profiling can also do miracles for the torque band

AMC wiring was awesome! I remember as a kid, our CJ-7 caught fire on the way home from Christmas. And it wasn't more than a few years old!
That's why I'm quite over-concerned with anything regarding wiring. A random broken wire in a hard-to-detect spot can lead to a short-circuit, and then, you know...

Started getting the trans back together. Countershaft is in with the reverse/5th shift shaft. Time to start putting the mainshaft back together. Also out at Carlisle I picked up a wiring harness. Same thing as the painless kit but half the price. Very happy with it.

Trans finally back together. Used ford racing rebuild kit, new 2-3-and input/4 gears. Jeep bearing retainer to fit the amc bell housing. New 1-2 slider gear. New reverse idler gear. Next is engine rebuild

New drivetrain. From backing plate to transmission yoke it cost about 1100 bux but it's worth it. Peace of mind

"new" engine disassembled. It's at the spa getting machined and massaged. Meanwhile the frozen 199 came out. Finally feeling like somethings getting done. Ordering camshaft and lifters tomorrow.

Also I figured the gear ratio in the rear is 3.08. I plugged the gears into the calculator on 4lo.com. With the .68 overdrive in the trans I come up with about 1800rpm at 65 mph and 1900 at 70
