IT geek trick: when IE is broken on a pc, and Firefox isn't installed, use ftp to download it.
Open a DOS box, change to an empty directory (I created c:\getff) then type:
ftp ftp.mozilla.org.
you'll be prompted for a username, use anonymous, password is your e-mail address.
cd to this directory: /pub/firefox/releases/3.5.4/win32/en-US/
set type to binary (type binary)
now here's the tricky part -- maybe someone with better Unix-Fu than I can answer this. The filename has spaces in it. (Firefox Setup 3.5.4.exe). The only way I know how to do this is to use mget instead of get (there's only one file, it will work fine)
mget *.exe
that will download the install file to your directory on your hard drive. Good luck!

Hey Ben! Nah, it's just easily changeable now. Of course, I haven't done it much, since I don't have a laptop, so you should definitely ask Adam. He uses the software all the time.

Lots more exciting stuff going on today!

I drove an hour and a half to go meet an NEV dealer who is closing up shop.

I was able to purchase a number of items from him at very good prices.

I got:
10 less-than-a-year-old 114AH Group 31 AGM batteries
2 ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATION signs
1 150 watt AC heater
2 Delta-Q 72V chargers (non-working, need to open 'em up and fix em. 144V car anyone!?)
3 24V Pulse Desulfaters
1 72V RF Desulfater
2 pairs of ELECTRIC decals for side of car (in neon green color!)
and a big smile.

Also, if anyone is interested in a 2007 ZENN NEV with 2300 miles on it, it's available for only $3000!

When I got home, I removed my old batteries, and replaced them with the new AGMS. I reinstalled the controller, and went for a ride. I was a little concerned at first, because I couldn't get the controller to go. After I powered everything off, then back on again, it worked.

I went for a drive and brought along a small video camera and suction cup for creative camera angles, but the camera uses a weird video format that I have to convert before editing!

A ZENN for $3k? AC or DC?

If it's AC, that's nuts! Someone could even grab that and use the parts in a lightweight conversion if they didn't want to keep the ZENN shell (and 25 mph legal speed restriction).

Holy Cow! I never even would have thought of using that for parts!
Yeah, by law, you can only go 25 in the ZENN, but put the same guts in a Festiva, and it's a legal car. Go figure!

I think the 2007 was the last year of the ZENN with the DC motor and the GE controller. It does have regen though.

The main thing with NEVs is that they are designed for really low amperage draw. If you take off the govenor, many NEVs will do 35 mph. (of course that will pull a few more amps as well!

Around here, I can't see the "25MPH limit" meaning anything to anyone, honestly. There are no cops at my dad's house, the Pennsylvania State Police don't patrol the area, and no one would know the difference, really.

We put the orange triangles on just about anything and drive it as fast as it will go down the highway, really.

I almost bought a desulfator yesterday, but decided I needed more feedback. Have you ever used those before? I read that Wizbang makes the best, what brand are these? You know, if you are short of lead/acid batteries to test them on, I would be more than happy to test drive them for you!

I was under the impression (from the yodas of the EVDL) that desulfators are possibly not legitimate devices. Little (no) empirical evidence backing up their claims.

Probably, but I'd try them on batteries whose only other fate would be selling for $3 to the recyclers....

I have heard many mixed reviews of desulfaters. The only reason at all that I got them is that I know the guy and he had DECADES of experience with EVs. He said that the ones he has are the ones he knows work.

I'll let you know about the desulfaters after I let them go to work on some batteries for a few weeks.

In the mean time, here's another video.
