Hi! Best tank with some EOC was 49.75 (it was after a trip, I wasn't on empty so I guess it could be considered best "trip"). Best tank without EOC would be 43ish but these tanks were not nearly identical so it's hard to compare. EOC gains me most on my commute to and from work, 28 miles, I can eoc about 4 miles or so of the commute and it nets me 5-8mpg depending on the day and traffic.

You've seen this, right?
Coasting experiment: engine off VS. engine idling
Results ...
- Lap 1: engine OFF while coasting - 60.3 mpg (US) ... 3.9 L/100 km ... 72.4 mpg (Imperial); elapsed time 17:57
- Lap 2: engine idling while coasting - 53.4 mpg (US) ... 4.4 L/100 km ... 64.1 mpg (Imperial); elapsed time 17:44

I don't use EOC because my Scion xA automatic can't be flat towed and the manual says don't go neutral with all 4 on the road.
2006 Scion xA 1.5L
automatic
best tank = 43mpg (no EOC)
modifications: upper grille block, fog lights blocked, antenna removed, no A/C used, windows up (HOT!!!!), tires @ 40psi

Hello,
Engine off coasting is quite different from coasting in neutral with the engine idling.
I don't EOC because the one time I tried it (going extremely slowly in line at a toll booth, I dang near had to put my foot through the floor to stop before hitting the car ahead of me -- the handbrake worked MUCH better! And steering w/o the vacuum assist is no picnic either.
Before you jump to conclusions, I'm 6'-4", 245 pounds and I can carry both my kids at the same time (~190 pounds together!). I've driven several older cars that did not have this problem (1968 AMC Rebel (had manual steering and brakes), 1970 Volvo 144 (manual steering and power assist brakes), 1987 VW Golf (manual steering and power assist brakes), 1997 Plymouth Neon (power steering and power brakes), and most recently before the Scion xA, I drove a 2002 Ford Focus ZX5 (power steering and power brakes). If my memory serves me, all of these cars were much easier to drive with the engine off.

Oops, yeah I meant I can't turn off and go neutral w/ 4 wheels on the road. I can shift into neutral while idling but I really haven't done it enough so I'm pretty much a coasting in gear when I can.

'05 xB Automatic:
With EOC = 40.56 mpg
Without EOC = 39.52 mpg
There are so many other factors to this but one place I use EOC is almost 2 miles and otherwise I'd be riding the brakes completely wasting gas.

I EOC some on my commute. My last tank (I filled up yesterday) is my best one yet, at 35.4mpg!
Outside of my commute (which uses backroads that cut through vineyards, so there's literally zero traffic to contend with), I almost never EOC, as I prefer to do it where I'm comfortable.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. 4.0L I6; 4sp Auto w/ overdrive. Stock.
19 mpg without EOC
24.4 mpg with EOC (so far... relying on my instrumentation for the numbers on this tank so far.)
When I drove the 19mpg tank, I drove as conservatively as I could.
With the 24.4 mpg tank, all I'm really doing is EOC P&G.
