Bicycle kit costs are $750??

So I was looking at the bicycle hub kit costs for a 26 inch wheel. Ebay has them priced out for $600 plus $60 shipping. This does not include batteries which I would suspect would cost $100.

Grand total for electric bicycle conversion is around $750. That sounds pretty expensive.

********

Are there less expensive ways to convert a bicycle with a DIY kit?

Here is a less costly kit solution for $400. Any reviews from folks??

hub motor, brushless motor, bike conversion kit, power wheelchair, wheelchair controller, electric wheelchair, golf trike,EV battery, brushless hub motor ,golf trolley, regenerative braking controller, 电动轮椅车,高尔登科技有限公司

Here is a kit for $450 that has absolutely everything

Also notes: Need to try to get a brushless motor for efficiency. Also need to be aware that there are three kinds of Lithium-ion batteries. Get the wrong lithium battery and it will be dead in 200 cycles.

These look interesting too

My bolt-on kit in 2001 cost $350. lead acid batteries too (no longer being sold). 2 years later- lithium battery - $1000. In 2006 a hub motor with 3 batteries cost $1350. Getting very expensive! Happy I got in on the ground floor.

Anybody know anything about these?

Sounds perfect for my dad, I've got some old e-scooter batteries on his bike now.

Not quite...
Lithium Ion (LIon),
Lithium Polymer (LiPo),
Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4), and
Lithium Sulfur.

The LiPo's have the best energy density/by weight.(Source)

Last edited by Figjam74; 07-08-2008 at 01:58 PM. Reason: LiPo's not LiFePo's.

There are also some new Lithium batteries that are experimental. Fast charge 1000 cycle technology. maybe five years away.

When I look at the total of batteries (LiFePo + charger) and the hub (500W brushless) with control electronics I still get $750 combined.
