How on earth do you build such a small car that gets such horrid gas mileage? Has Toyota been borrowing ideas from the CR-Z?
I'll speculate: althoug the iQ is small, its frontal area is not. Also, its drag coefficient is downright embarrasing by EM standards. Its grille and mirrors are a large percentage of its frontal area. And the aft body? It doesn't have one.
Basically, it's a Toyota Smart ForTwo. Skip it.

Hello -
I suspect the CVT isn't helping it's potential MPG.

The earlier Cd mentioned is 0.29, so it isn't that. The frontal area is relatively tall, but I can't think that it is overly large. I wonder what the 6-speed manual version gets?
The other thing I have not seen that was mentioned previously, is Stop/Start technology.

0.299 * 23.1ft^2 = bigger frontal area and higher Cd than a Corolla. I request my iQ be lowered and lengthened.
The European version does 0-62 in 14.7s, which is too slow for Americans. Hopefully Toyota solves this with electric assist instead of a "performance"-tuned engine.
