As it pertains to the rounded tail, I wonder what it would take to make a tail section that lifts like the nose of a C5 Galaxy. Could a clever contraption of torsion springs and hydraulic dampers could do the heavy lifting? Perhaps the dead space inside the cone could be used to store Race Ramps or similar product to load vehicles/cargo. Maybe a cargo net, suspended from inside the cone, could be used to secure small items. I think a mildewed, old Airstream could make a likely prototype candidate.
I've seen nosecones on trailers at the Pate Swap Meet with multiple hinge articulations which allow the cone to clear the trailer box, then swing up.I may have photos, but not sure.
A problem with this design is that if you get a wind gust out of the wrong direction you've got a parachute that is going to test the integrity of it's mount.
It can also act as a spinnaker sail on a sailboat, capable of moving an un-hitched trailer.

I posted about a trailer that may interest you a while back. You may not have found it searching as it was buried in another thread.

Sure, why not. But you're fighting gravity.

Take the same contraption. split in halves and turn it 90°. You find you need the length added on each side with the single hinge. Convert to a Watts four-bar linkage. Now you only need to accommodate the curvature, not the length of the tail.
