Car cover best $30 I have ever spent

I took the plunge and bought a car cover last night.

Benefits

1) Helps retain heat.

2) Heat it does retain helps melt any ice left on windows from driving.

3) Keeps new frost, snow, and freezing rain off windows.

4) Saves energy by keeping the rear window defroster off.

5) Saves your energy spent scraping windows.

6) Saves fuel by letting you drive before heater kicks in because windows are clear.

7) keeps car lighter by keeping snow off

Been thinking about buying one too. We had a fair share of freezing rain where I live and it was painful to scrape all the windows covered by a 5mm-thick sheet of ice.

Here's my cover for the windshield and front windows. Installed on the last day before it started snowing.

The only downside is that the solar trickle charger on the dashboard no longer charges.

No, not while driving. If my engine is really cold its too sluggish to drive safely. I have on busy street I have to make a left turn onto to get to work. I usually let it idle until I notice the temp gauge move during the winter.

Your DIY cover looks Like it would save you some scrapping thumbs up

I don't see many threads on this forum that I consider worthy of much time and effort, but I can honestly believe this one has its merits.

It's not DIY, but would be if I hadn't found it for the equivalent of only $10/8€. It looks a little messy, since it is sized for a minivan, but that was the only size that would cover my loooong windshield.

One of its merits is that it covers the door handles and keeps them from icing.
