check out my new kammback !

its made of heat bended plexiglas from the local DIY shop and aluminium strips bent into hooks that anchor into the rear hatch.

i will test it soon. do you think the angle is too steep?

Hi,

Yes, it would probably be better if it was less steep; but try it and see if it helps.

modmonster -

I really like it because I think the rear visibility is important. I am not sure, but should the sides "come off" the side of the hatchback door? I ask because in my "Kamm-back plan to rule the world", that was my design assumption.

What is a DIY shop? I think I know what you mean, but I am interested in the one you went to.

I think it may be too steep, yes. Did you by any chance see the "teardrop template" in my Kammback thread? It's a good starting place for figuring out the ideal shape/angle.

EDIT: here's the link to the post in question about the teardrop ... Project: making a permanent Metro Kammback extension

I really like the material choice. If I could do mine in clear plastic, I probably would.

slightly too deep of an angle off the back, and the sides should extend past the hatch to the absolute sides of the vehicle to add maximum flow extension.

Looks great though, and even slight improvement is better than nothing.. (if it wasn't it would not be called slight IMPROVEMENT... correct?)

I'd like to think that people might open their eyes at some point... instead, I find it more and more likely that I'll just close mine.

COOL.

I think 'too steep' is a good place to start. I would suggest tuft testing while incrementally raising the trailing edge until attached flow is indicated. Then you know you're getting the most bang for the buck, as it were.
The only problem with that strategy is filling in the sides afterwards.

I also think plexi is the material of choice. Good job, modmonster!

I concur that plexi is the way to go. Time for some tuft testing though and then perhaps Kammback 2.0?

a had a corsa once but it met with a wall, still it intrests me how aerodynamic i might have made it if i'd still had it

since the prius is a bit of an icon when it comes to good earo i made a quick comparison between the two... the sketches are not to scale but it's interesting to see that the overall proportions of the two cars match quite well, only as as apparent in the first comparison to be as aero as the prius the corsas roof would have to drop considerably wich could make it look more like a CRX

when looking at the roofline curve and continueing prius style where the opel roof stops you can see it shoudln't be to hard to make a kammback that continues that line.

it would seem that your kamm angles down a bit to steep. you might get better results with changeing the angle wich couldn't be that hard to do i imangine.

also your car has these gentle curves at the back, generally a clear cut edge will promote cleaner saparation. perhaps small spoiler strips to the sides could cure this...
could make a difference in aero too
