Re energy absorption you might want to look at inverting tube energy absorber. They work very well and have a "square" force vs displacement curve so you can design to the g load you want to sustain. They are "one shot" devices and have to be replaced if used. Nice device because they are rigid before and after deployment.

The finish is going to be done by blasting with medium glass beads.
Medium glass bead blasting appears to be what the diamond tread was finished with from the factory.

This is most of the way done now.
Next will be the rear bumper build, here:

Some tuft testing on the corners will tell the direction and thickness ov the boundary lair. The research Ive run across you want the VG ( Vortex generator) to be @15° off of the direction of flo. Nice buld.
Gumby stay flexible.

I have not updated this in a while.
Before I left I pulled some all nighters and a few good 28 hour days couldn't pull together, building my spot welder, spot welding that 13 gauge expanded stainless to the inside of the bumper, fully welding all around everything and bead blasted it with glass beads.
The supporting frame is structurally complete, just needs finishing, crushed iron slag blast, primer, paint, asphalt coating and such and build all the stuff that's going inside and behind the bumper.
Now that I finished the hard part I can work on the really hard part.

Here are some pictures before things got time crunched.

I think I took some finished pictures but then I think I stuck the memory card in my game camera. I may have brought it with me, just need to dig through my bags.
