I installed roof racks and fuel use went up to 6 L/100km. I built a lift-neutral airfoil for each cross bar using western red cedar. The fuel use returned to 5 L/100 km. Wow, I was impressed that a simple mod could make such a huge difference! I installed a ski box onto the racks without any change in fuel economy. The cross bars seem to be the drag spoilers here.
