The Nissan Ellure PHEV concept car at the LA Auto Show has clear-ish plastic inserts in
some of the slots in its spoked wheels:



I guess half a loaf is better than none.

Don't know if the wheels are truly directional.

Very interesting though

And I wonder how well the aluminum in alloy rims works at pulling the heat from the brakes. Aluminum has crazy fast heat transfer speeds.

And besides, as the OP I hoped you all would cut me a little slack.

FWIW, it is not clear to me how they are held on.
There are pop-rivet looking things on the outer end of the arm of the insert
on the lower left. But, probably not.

Maybe metal posts have been melted into the insert that mate with holes in
the wheel. This would work on a concept car, but not out on the road.
